Why Metal Structure Matters

The metal frame is the backbone of every chair. From the cantilever or the legs under the seat to the supports for the armrests armrest, it carries all weight, absorbs impact and determines how long the chair lasts.

At MSDA, we use thickened steel tubes and sometimes add inner sleeves at bending positions to reinforce the structure — designed in line with BIFMA 5.1 and EN 1335 standards. With OTC robotic welding and full-CNC processing, we produce uniform, strong and smooth metal frames with no weak weld joints. Every metal part passes strict load and impact tests to stay reliable for years of daily use.

From Tube to Finished Frame Processing Process

Every metal frame follows MSDA's standardized 9-step production process, from material cutting to final warehousing, ensuring consistent quality for every batch.

Material Cutting
Cut steel tubes to required lengths strictly in accordance with BOM material specifications.

Inner Sleeve Punching (Optional)
Fit a 40cm long, 2.0mm thick inner tube at the vertical bending position of the bow frame, and fix the sleeve in place with a punch press to prevent the bent bow frame from deforming under load (designed per BIFMA standards).

Tube Bending
Use Taiwan imported high-precision CNC tube bending machine to form tubes into designed shapes in one step, ensuring uniform and standard product dimensions.

Punching & Drilling
Process mounting holes on the metal frame for fixing backrests, seat cushions, armrests and decorative covers, to ensure firm assembly.

Arc Cutting
Punch R-shaped notches on curved tubes for joint splicing, so that the concave and convex surfaces fit tightly and support standard robotic welding.

Welding
We use OTC brand robotic welding. It produces even, smooth weld seams with little slag, better appearance and higher efficiency than manual welding.

Grinding
All weld joints, drilled holes and hand-contact areas are ground smooth to improve the surface finish of products.

Polishing
Tube bending leaves mold marks, and welding & grinding leave processing marks. We use 320# fine sand to polish the surface and reduce surface scratches on metal parts.

Warehousing & Outsourcing
Finished parts are stored in warehouse and then sent out for surface treatment (powder coating, electroplating).
Quality Control

MSDA runs strict in-process inspection and finished product testing for all metal parts. We follow BIFMA standards and apply stricter internal quality rules.

Q: What is the wall thickness of your metal chair frames?
A: We mainly use 2.0mm and 2.5mm thick steel tubes. Bending positions of bow frames are reinforced with 2.0mm thick inner sleeves, designed per BIFMA load standards.

Q: Do you use manual welding or robotic welding?
A: We use OTC brand robotic welding for mass production. It creates more even and smoother welds with less slag than manual welding, and keeps stable quality for every batch.

Q: What surface treatments are available for metal parts?
A: Finished metal parts are sent for professional surface processing, mainly powder coating and chroming. Custom colors and finishes can be supported per project requirements.

Q: Can you customize metal frames with special dimensions?
A: Yes. We support OEM/ODM customization for metal structures. With in-house CNC equipment and tooling capability, we can adjust tube size, bending shape and hole positions based on your design.

Q: How do you ensure consistent dimensions across batches?
A: We use Taiwan imported CNC tube bending machines for one-step forming, with unified process parameters for each product model. We also conduct sampling dimension inspection for every batch to control tolerance.
